Roy Scholten (Ulft, 1973) is a visual artist, printmaker and author living and working in Hilversum, The Netherlands. He is best known for his bird prints in LEGO® Letterpress.
He graduated from the Willem de Kooning art academy in Rotterdam in 1996. He then worked as a designer and information architect for complex online applications.
In 2009 he started developing his own artistic practice in the printmaking studios of Grafisch Atelier Hilversum. His prints are made using techniques like etching, monoprint and a custom Hilversum Method for visual letterpress. Using this innovative way of modular image making, he creates richly textured prints that capture the essence of the subject.
The 50 Birds project was featured in The Guardian newspaper in 2023. His prints are bought by collectors from all over the world.
